Music at St. Francis

Music at st-francis-episcopal-church is integral to worship, offering a diverse draw to liturgy and prayer.

Liturgical Music

• Hymnody: Draws from The Hymnal 1982 (revised 1997), featuring 906 hymns and service music spanning ancient monastic chants to modern compositions.
• Liturgies: Incorporates varied musical traditions, such as a Celtic-inspired Evening Liturgy.
• Guests: Occasionally hosts visiting ensembles, including the Ladies of Lee.
• Special Music: Features local recordings, including July 4th Weekend Music (Vimeo).

Instruments

• Sanctuary Instruments: Includes organ, piano, harpsichord, and harp.
• The Carillon: St. Francis features a traditional 27-bell carillon, one of only 183 such instruments in North America. It is hand-played without electrical systems, allowing for expressive dynamics. It was gifted by former Music Director and Organist William "Bill" Barger in memory of his mother, Linnie M. Barger.
