St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church is an Episcopal parish located in Ooltewah, Tennessee, within the Diocese of East Tennessee.

History and Founding

The parish began as a mission initiative in 1986, culminating in the purchase of 3.4 acres at Providence Road and Ooltewah-Georgetown Road in 1988.

• First Vicar: The Rev. Buckley Robbins, appointed in September 1991.
• First Service: Held on November 3, 1991, at the leased old James County Courthouse with 51 people attending.
• Episcopal Transition: The parish represents the final mission under Bishop Sanders and the first under Bishop Tharp.
• Name Origin: Initially known as the Ooltewah Episcopal Fellowship (and jokingly "St. Sumthenuruther"), the congregation eventually selected St. Francis. For complete historical details, see page-3157145.
